Often in my house I get the question ‘Are you laughing at me?’ To which my reply is usually ‘No. I’m laughing at what you’re going’. This is a very important distinction to make, because as long as the person in question can see that distinction they’ll realise that I’m not being harsh.
The simple fact is that I’ll laugh at people doing silly things regardless of who they are, including (most importantly) myself. In fact I’m quite often the source of my of my own laughter, due to some of the silly things I do (Like Mirror Cam).
Here’s how I see it, if you do something silly, but which has humerous connotations, then if you have the abillity to see the funny side and essentially laugh at the action rather than the person, then you’ll never get laughed at again.
The adage ‘Laugh, and the world laughs with you’ could not be truer. In fact you could add to it ‘Don’t laugh and the world laughs at you’. Although in my personal opinion that’s pretty much implied in the first saying.
Even though I have no idea of the context that it was originally used.
Rob quickly turns to google
Although I can save face by saying it was originally written in a poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
research research research

A poem called solitude published (I believe) in 1917.
In fact with a breif scan of the poem it does seem that the original context was intended to be slightly different, but I stand by my comment, I feel it still makes a good point.

My nose drips, my throat is sore, I sneeze for an occupation and my eyes are ichy. I think I’m dying!
This was my reaction (being a standard guy) last week when I caught ‘a bit of a cold’. In my defence it wasn’t just a bit of a cold, it was a full blown cold, with slightly above average temperature and everything!
As is so often the case, the major sympoms of this hit at the weekend. I had an inkling to my possible predicament on thursday, and being fairly organised for once, I put some Lemsip in with my pack-lunch for work on friday. This was a lifesaver.
However I was slightly put off by the claims on the box for Lemsip, they went something along these lines:

Headaches [tick]
Aches and Pains [tick]
Runny nose [tick]

Now seeing the funny side of most things I noted that this could easily be mis-read to be claiming to give you these symptoms.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have looked at these in this light, because, sure enough after leaving work and getting to the train for my trip down to my parents I had; a headache (fairly normal with a cold), a runny nose (a staple of a cold), and an aching lower back. Now this was the worry bubble for me, you see I’ve never, in all my 24 years of life on this planet, experienced aches and pains as being a symptom of a cold. And to top it all off I had a sore throat too!
This was something that led me to believe that perhaps the criminal masterminds at lemsip had made their ‘Cold and flu’ hot drink powder give you all these problems. Exactly as it claims on the packet. PLUS of course the sore throat, thus tempting you to ‘upgrade’ to the new and more expensive product in their line.
Very suspicious indeed!
So be careful out there gentle reader, somethings could well be EXACTLY as they appear!

Also in my humble opinion its much better to ‘stop and flop’ when stricken with a cold than trying to drug yourself up and power through.

*It is very probable that this is all rubbish ramblings by Rob and Lemsip is not run by criminal masterminds [I have to put this is because I never got round to writing a disclaimer about humour and opinion]

I have a new housemate now, which means I am now living with three beautiful women, which is always nice. More importantly though they are really nice and easy to get on with.
Dan has yet to return my DVDs, but fortunately if he doesn’t then I can get the money from his depost. At the moment I’m missing seven DVD’s and one box set, and charging £20 per DVD and £50 for the box set means I’ll be getting £190 if he doesn’t bring them back.
Which of course leaves me almost hoping that he doesn’t.
Then again it would be a fair amount of hastle to buy them all again, not to mention a complete waste of my time…

Well what can you do about these things?
Anyway, the atmosphere in the house is really good right now and I’m meeting loads of nice people through breakdancing and capoeira, and they’re keeping me busy and active.
So life’s look pretty good for me at the moment ! 🙂

Well Dan has deffinately moved out of the house now, and it seems that there is a lot of interest in the room which is good. I’m certainly hoping that we get another quality person in, it sounds like the people that have been interested are good people, even though I’ve not met any of them. Its all been a bit strange, it was all sorted for some guy to move in in November, but then I get back from the weekend madness and there’s someone gonna look round (missed him) and calls left right and center with people interested… bit crazy.

Trouble is it seems that Dan has gone off with a whole load of my DVD’s, which is rather rude, ‘specially seeing as my brand new Babylon 5 series one boxed set that I got for my birthday now also seems to have disappeared. This is damn annoying and means I’ll have to call him and that may well lead to confrontation which I really am not a fan of!
But then no-one comes between me and my DVD’s !!!

Well that was a very enjoyable and very knackering five days, here’s what I’ve been upto:
(Yes I’m afraid it is going to be another list of day-by-day stuff but hopefully things should be back to normal (normal?) soon)

  • Friday: Got the train upto Loughborough and arrived in the early afternoon, after a bit of curfuffle we set off in the hire car to Chester. Unfortuanately traffic caused us to arrive pretty late so the light had gone for photo’s, but we still walked all the way round the wall and managed to find somewhere to eat. Then we went to stay at Den’s parents house.
  • Saturday: Got up fairly early to set off to Liverpool, this was pretty good, and I can now happily say that I’ve walked down Penny Lane (woo). Alana and ‘Cole went around the beatles museum experience thing and Den and I went to photograph ‘stuff’. This was good. Then we went a little way up the coast to Formby to have a look at the red squirrels. Didn’t take any pictures myself as they don’t look much different with black and white film. From there we carried on up to Southport where we had fish and chips (well I had pie and chips but its all still very British). We returned to Den’s parents house.
  • Sunday: We went back to Loughborough via the Peak district, which was good, went and saw a castle and went do a cave (with Blue John in it). Also we went to Bakewell and had a tart, which gave a great deal of satisfaction. Although they do call them puddings there. Bit more tourist type stuff and then back to Loughborough.
  • Monday: On this day we went to London, we visited Hyde park, Tower bridge, Harrods, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and tried to get into a show but they were booked up. Not all in that order by the way.
  • Tuesday: Den and ‘Cole had stayed the night at mine and Alana had gone to stay with her friend Rachel (Racheal, Rachal?) and so we met up again at Camden Market, I have yet to buy anything from there. I think I deffinately need to be in the right mood, but sometime soon! Anyway, then we went to St Pauls, which unfortunately is covered in scafolding at the moment as its being cleaned. Then we split with Rachel and Alana going off for some more tourist type stuff and I showed Den and ‘Cole Canary Warf, which was good.
I was going to be meeting up with Alana nad Rachel when Den and ‘Cole went home but I was completely knackered, and so came home.

So why all the tourist type stuff you may ask?
Well Alana is visiting from Australia, and so maximum effort was extended to explore some of the best bits… Was damn good fun, but geez, it certainly takes it out of ya!
Personally I don’t know how she’s still going but hey 🙂

Things are no different, although I am a bit tired after about five days of celebration and maddness, culminating today in tiding the house…. yeah ok maybe not your average birthday celebration but we’ve got an inspection by the landlord tomorrow so it had to be done.
It was definately great to see everyone again, I think this has been the biggest gathering of my friends for any of my birthdays (since people started gathering for that kind of thing) the DVD player that my parents ordered me arrived via the Sam/Jim courier service which made up for comet delivering to the wrong address. And that works fine although I did have a bit of a moment when I had to look at the manual… I’d foolishly set the video output mode to one that the TV here can’t handle, thus giving a blank screen, thankfully there was a simple way of reseting it.
Well I think I’m going to settle down and watch a really cheesy film on the TV now, just what the doctor ordered to recover and relax 😉

I mentioned, not so long ago that I was having a big think about my life direction and that I’d made some decisions. Well I was a bit secretive about it simply because I was blogging during my lunch break at work, and I felt it would be a bit rude to write about wanting to find a new job.
Which is what I’m hoping to do, and if things work in my favour it will be much closer to home so that I don’t have to commute.
I’ve been meaning to blog about this from home earlier but I felt that actions speak louder than words, and unfortunately up until this evening my words have been saying ‘start look for a new job’ but my actions have been saying ‘watch TV’.
I had a good plan of attack, get my CV upto date by this weekend and then take it down to a recruitment agency on saturday. Unfortunately I don’t have a printer.
I thought of using the printer at work. I will have to let my boss know about the plan at some point, its only polite. Plus he’ll be one of my references. 🙂
Also it seems that my CV may need more work than I first thought, if I want it to be as impressive as possible. Without lying of course, I’ve never lied trying for a job and I don’t intend to start now!
Will keep the whole situation posted 😉

Alternatively known as a quarter-life crisis.
Yup as hard to believe as it sounds I think I may be going through on of those, or at least getting close to one. Personally I would much rather have a quater-life crisis than a mid-life crisis. You seee the way I see it is a quarter-life crisis is all about trying to work out what you want from life and how to acheive it, whether you’re on the right path and what you need to do to get or stay on the right path.
Which is far better than the mid-life crisis where (as I see it) you are fretting about all the things you missed, where you should be but aren’t and all kinds of negative type thoughts.
So I’m going through a period of intense thought (careful now) trying to work out what I want and how to get it, ranging from careers choices to spiritual practice, so as you can imagine its quite a task and quite a lot of thinking !!!

So anyway, as soon as I know where I’m heading I’ll keep you informed.
Some decisions have been made but I need to act on them now, no point in making plans if there’s going to be no execution !!
…as in doing it, not as in killing someone….

unless thats what you planned…

which I haven’t
