Archives for the month of: August, 2004

I must explain that my lack of blogging over the weekend was caused by a busy saturday and a lack of internet connectivity on sunday. Hopefully this will be back to normal but its never a sure thing when you’re ‘borrowing’ your connection from your unsuspecting neighbour 😉

Ok so I’m blatantly stealing this idea from ‘I’m sorry I haven’t a clue’, the BBC radio 4 light entertainment show. Still I thought it was pretty funny.

Censorship of songs on the radio is generally done with *beep*ing out the offending language, this makes the song of course suitible for audiences before the watershed. However if you apply the same *beep*s to a completely innocent song, the effect can be rather amusing (for the adults of course)

Observe example A, The snowman (we’re *beep*ing on the air):

We’re *beep*ing in the air
We’re *beep*ing in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

I’m holding very tight
I’m *beep*ing in the midnight blue
I’m finding I can *beep* so high above with you

yeah well its probably better if you hear it but hopefully you get the idea, why not try it yourself with a home-made beeping machine made from a washing up bottle and some foil.

Well I had my first session at my new gym, it seems pretty damn good !!

Decided not to push it too hard seeing as I haven’t been for over four months :O.
They do have a very cool excercise bike there, it has a build in game machine!!

Yes and not only that but how hard you peddle effects the game. The first one I played was pretty damn simple, space ship shooty type thing… where the faster you peddled the quicker you shoot and also the quicker you can charge up your ‘super weapon’… very cool stuff.
The second game I played, you fly a lil ship around and collect floating gems that you then have to return to the ‘harvester’, the faster you peddle the faster your ship goes, but the more gems you are ‘towing’ the harder the resistance….
first round I didn’t realise this and damn… I had a huge row of gems I was towing and I strayed too close to a black hole, that was an awful lot of work to get out of that situation!!!

Deffinately a very cool way of making excercise more fun!

Strangely I seem to have developed a backlog of things that I want to blog about, so I think I’ll try and get myself in gear and get them up. Although having said that some of them haven’t been posted because they require some research and I’m feeling a bit idle in that department right now.
Others just haven’t yet seemed to fall into place properly with wordage and stuff. So anyway onto the first on the list:
I was stimulate to think about the hecktic pace of modern life by an article on slowness and its follow up, both interesting and the follow up has some disturbing facts.
So what has happened to the world that has created all these problems with people rushing around and not spending a decent amount of time with family and friends or even sitting down to a decent meal?

I have recently added bbclone to the behind-the-scenes of my website. For those that don’t know this tells me how many people have visited, which pages are most popular and how often my site is being indexed by search engines.

I have much to my shame become slightly addicted to the information though. Imagine the scene….
Rob sitting at computer, idly wonders ‘how many people have visited my site so far?
*checks*
‘Wahoo!!! 7 people!’
*dances around in joy for a bit*

*sits back down*…..

I wonder how many people have visited now‘….

And repeat.

I have since been told that AWStats is even better, but after having a bash at getting it working and getting nowhere, I think I’ll leave it for now.

Exciting and interesting little experiment, THE SIDE NOTE!!!

*points to left*

there in the menu anyone can add comments and links, the length of these are limited to 100 words so think text messages 😉

BTW, I’m not sure if I’m gonna keep it or not, we’ll see how it goes, enjoy 😀

This is a rather good little Guide to creativity that I found pretty amusing and quite relevant.

Or something like that, worth a browse though 🙂

Well I did go to see Spiderman 2 yesterday, and I did join the gym too (yay for me).

I must say that I really enjoyed the film, not to sure about the comments that its better than the first, but its certainly of the same level. There was however two points in the film that I found slightly irritating, what were they, well firstly I’ll explain why I found them irritating:
Being fairly clever but not all that strong I am a big fan of situations that are solved with brain power as opposed to brute force. Seeing as there was a point made in the film about how clever Peter Parker is, I was disapointed that this approach wasn’t used in two secions of the film.
The first one was with the runaway train, surely any quick thinking invividual would realise that the first thing to do in the situation is to disconnect the power from the electrified rail so the motors on the train are no longer powering it forwards?
THEN you can start throwing webs everywhere to stop it.
Below this is a spoiler so if you haven’t seen the film, don’t go on.

This posting is a community experiment that tests how a meme, represented by this blog posting, spreads across blogspace, physical space and time. It will help to show how ideas travel across blogs in space and time and how blogs are connected. It may also help to show which blogs (and aggregation sites) are most influential in the propagation of memes. The dataset from this experiment will be public, and can be located via Google (or Technorati) by doing a search for the GUID for this meme (below).

Please join the test by adding your blog (see instructions, below) and inviting your friends to participate — the more the better. The data from this test will be public and open; others may use it to visualize and study the connectedness of blogspace and the propagation of memes across blogs.

The GUID for this experiment is:

as098398298250swg9e98929872525389t9987898tq98wteqtgaq62010920352598gawst

The above GUID enables anyone to easily search Google or other search engines for all blogs that participate in this experiment, once they have indexed the sites that participate, which may take several days or weeks. To locate the full data set, just search for any sites that contain this GUID.

Anyone is free to analyze the data of this experiment. Please publicize your analysis of the data, and/or any comments by adding comments onto the original post (see URL above). (Note: it would be interesting to see a geographic map or a temporal animation, as well as a social network map of the propagation of this meme.)

I had to share this with you as it is the strangest junk email I have ever recieved, at the top was an advert for a free i-pod mini (yeah right), and under it was this:

I’m cold, you said, staring at the continuation we had to feel through yesterday. I don’t know how he found that place. There’s something I should tell you. Hi, I said to all the animals.

What is the answer? He wanted to know more. What are we going to do tonight? I asked. But this was a long road, and should I walk down it, I might never come back.

There were many examples of animals all around. I can never describe the walk back to my truck. I didn’t have to say: can we change the meeting from 6 to 11? My kids have a music recital and I dont want to miss it for the world. Suddenly, he disappeared.

How embarrassing. (I’d seen something really weird. 🙂 How embarrassing. I wished so deeply for the change to come about. I’m cold, you said, staring at the continuation we had to feel through yesterday.

Very very strange but quite entertaining 🙂
