So yesterday me Wii finally arrived! Unfortunately I couldn’t unpack it and play with it immediately as I was driving to my parents for Christmas. Still a few extra hours on top of the ten days I’d already been waiting is not problem.
Shall I turn this post in a kind of mini review? Well why not.
Firstly, some people that I read about seemed to have problems with the packaging. The only assumption I can draw from this is that they are fecking retards. Pull the ‘draw’ with the ‘1’ on it first, and the one with ‘2’ on it second. It couldn’t get any simpler.
So far the inclusive and fun nature of the contol method has been very obvious, playing any kind of computer game with my parents is rare (unless it’s Su doku or freecell or something like that). So playing Wii sports for an hour and a half gives you an idea of how fun and simple the games are.
We tried out tennis (the best in my opinion), golf and bowling. Strangly the score I got for the virtual bowling was pretty close to the kind of score that I would get at a real bowling alley, a bit higher but pretty close. Which goes to show how well the controls have been implemented. Golf was a bit of a simplistic affair with the strenght of your swing being the only real factor. This doesn’t bother me as it’s a compilation game and I think there is a ‘proper’ golf game coming out at some point. Tennis was cool, and the only game I’ve played so far that didn’t need you to use any buttons (a plus in my book).
One thing that I have noticed is that the ‘point and shoot’ mechanism for the menu, and for some of the other games (in Wii play and in Zelda) seems to be very slightly laggy. Admitedly I’ve not played Zelda yet, but it is noticable in menus and in the shooting games. Even my Dad was complaining about a delay. However it doesn’t take long at all to adapt to it and as I know how the pointing system works I’ve got no problem with it – basically I know it’s pretty hard from a software/hardware point of view.

Rob rating: Money well spent.

That are going round my head, just to keep you upto date.

Is it always true that the longer you work the more amusing you find dilbert comics?

Is the only reason that James Bond has such an air of cool about him because he doesn’t laugh much? Or even smile. When you think about it how often does James Bond laugh or smile? If it were more than once a film I’d be surprised.

I find the idea of a HideAway cozy both amusing and appealing.

This is a post about my career, prepare to be astonishingly interested. I started off in a small company (not including work placements) of about 30 people. Then I moved to another small company of about 50 people. This in many ways is good, working in a small company means that you generally have to get involved in more aspects of the business and work life is more interesting. There was however a nagging feeling that perhaps I should try and get into a bigger company at some point in the future.
Then we got taken over, by Radstone. Radstone would probably be described as a medium sized business, a few hundred people as far as I can tell. Still however things haven’t really changed here.
Then, on Tuesday it became official. Radstone has been taken over by GE Fanuc, part of the GE monster company, over 300,000 employees and an annual turnover of roughly 160 billion dollars.
To be honest I don’t know what kind of change this will actually make to me here, but I’m certainly interested to find out!

And of course the beauty of it is that I’m now working for one of the largest companies in the world without actually having to put in any effort. Score!

It’s been a long time since I last posted!!

No wonder my traffic is going down (although paradoxically my spam comments are going up!)
The good news is that I’m ok, verging on happy I’d say. Really getting back into being healthy (although the weekend just gone was quite a setback) and getting exercise. Which is good, I never really got my rhythm back after the enforced stillness of glandular fever at the beginning of the year. Which is quite ridiculous when you think about it.
Still I’m going to the gym about twice a week and I’m going to breakdance, capoeira and yoga again.

Life is good, it’ll be even better once I’ve recovered from the weekend (not sure if it was the junk food or the beer, probably both)

Like many modern technophiles of this era I have a lot of music on my computer, and I have an MP3 player. Winamp has been my player of choice for quite a while, not because it’s better than all the rest, but simply because when I first started listening to music on the computer it was.

Now there is a new and quite frankly brilliant alternative (a good alternative to iTunes as well for the anti-apple iPod owners) it is, Media Monkey! The basic package is free (always nice), and it can sync playlists with portable devices (although I ‘ve not actually tried this yet), perform easy format conversions, auto tag mp3’s from amazon, or from file names, or even rename files from tags. All in a very easy and quick way.

Personally I’m seriously thinking about paying the $20 to get the full version, which can do a few other useful sounding things.

Saturday afternoon is the time, my living room is the setting, the company is my housemate Dave. The time has come. The hangover from the night before has subsided to acceptable levels and we both have 4 pills and a pint of water. The time has come.

The pills in question are Dionysos (mentioned before) and we’re both taking a full dose. The effects reportedly take forty five minutes to an hour to kick in (or one shower in some parts). We swallow them down, personally I felt a bit silly, like it was still ‘wrong’ in some way. Certainly not like taking vitamin pills that’s for sure!
About an hour later the nausea hits Dave, I’m affected about 15 minutes later. Fortunately it’s not to heavy, in the grand scheme of things, just rather unpleasant.
After about two hours our extreme Englishness kicks in:
“Ooo, I don’t like this….. Cup of tea?” Says Dave
Immediately this is an excellent idea, tea and biscuits. Much better.

And that was it. I felt nothing other than slightly ill, Dave reported feeling slightly ill and ‘a bit spaced out’.

The only possible way that these pills were ‘mind broadening’ is the appreciation for simple things we gained through the experience. Simple things like fresh air, tea and biscuits, and a comfortable sofa. A bit disappointing for £10, but to an extent I was expecting that. It’s unlikely that I’ll find my ‘ideal drug’ first time out.

I just wish it had been a bit less crap.

Being interested in photography and photoshop I have an idea of how distorted some of the images of people in magazines and the media can be. There is an excellent example of just how fake things can be on apophenia, a blog I read with interest (to be honest the video is a slight departure from the normal commentary).
You seriously need to check out this video.

I’d be interested if there were a male version, to contrast how much (or little) guys in magazines get the same treatment.

So, before I recount the experiences of the first trial I’ll tell you what I got and from where. In order of strength (from what I can tell) I have Dionysos (no idea how to pronounce that), Purple Ohms and 1 gram of 5x Salvia standardized extract. It seems that I made a bit of a mistake with the Salvia as it seems that the stuff I have is intended to be smoked. I should have gone for a tincture. Haven’t decided what to do about this.

Anyway, the Dionysos is the first one I tried last night. As I said in my last post, the recommended dose is 3-4 capsules, I started with one. There did seem to be an effect, it can only be described as rather mild… Read the rest of this entry »

I can tell from my stats that people have probably failed to notice but I’ve put the picture uploads that I lost from the server move back on the gallery. See some gig shots taken for Seven Story Down in a new album devoted to music shoots.

Drug update coming soon.
