They say that going to the gym will leave you feeling envigorated and refreshed.
In many ways this is a big lie and heres why. Excersice will only give you benefit if it occurs regularly and going to the gym for the first time or going after an extended absence (as I did yesterday) will infact leave you feeling completely knackered.
This is (probably) because your body is not used to the exertion so it needs much rest after the event, ie makes you feel knackered. However if you are a regular exerciser then your body is used to the strain and afterwards will be gathering energy from fat and releasing endorphins and all that malarky. The net effect of all this is to make you feel better (mentally) and more energetic.

Of course these things will probably depend on how hard you push yourself in your chosen sport, it is always possible to go to far which will result in exhaustion. Going to this level will probably result in you getting fitter quicker but of course for this you have to pay the price of being knackered all the time.

All the words starting with ‘ex’ in this post were brought to you by a dictionary I honestly have no idea why the spelling of these words causes me so much trouble.

Well I had my first session at my new gym, it seems pretty damn good !!

Decided not to push it too hard seeing as I haven’t been for over four months :O.
They do have a very cool excercise bike there, it has a build in game machine!!

Yes and not only that but how hard you peddle effects the game. The first one I played was pretty damn simple, space ship shooty type thing… where the faster you peddled the quicker you shoot and also the quicker you can charge up your ‘super weapon’… very cool stuff.
The second game I played, you fly a lil ship around and collect floating gems that you then have to return to the ‘harvester’, the faster you peddle the faster your ship goes, but the more gems you are ‘towing’ the harder the resistance….
first round I didn’t realise this and damn… I had a huge row of gems I was towing and I strayed too close to a black hole, that was an awful lot of work to get out of that situation!!!

Deffinately a very cool way of making excercise more fun!

Strangely I seem to have developed a backlog of things that I want to blog about, so I think I’ll try and get myself in gear and get them up. Although having said that some of them haven’t been posted because they require some research and I’m feeling a bit idle in that department right now.
Others just haven’t yet seemed to fall into place properly with wordage and stuff. So anyway onto the first on the list:
I was stimulate to think about the hecktic pace of modern life by an article on slowness and its follow up, both interesting and the follow up has some disturbing facts.
So what has happened to the world that has created all these problems with people rushing around and not spending a decent amount of time with family and friends or even sitting down to a decent meal?

Like so many people around the world I suffer from hayfever, although it seems to strike later than most people. This always throws me because when I see everyone else sneezing away I think ‘oh maybe I’ve become immune and won’t get it this year‘ then it strikes. Seems to have hit with avengence today. I’m just extremely glad that Benadryl seems to sort me out pretty much most of the time.

This has however triggered my curiosity and here is the result, below is a list of common pollen producered in England and when they flower. Using this info I’m now pretty sure that I’m allergic to either Nettle or Dock, not sure how this is usefly but its good to know ;).
This info was found from My Pharmacy so if you’re not too lazy you could just go there, at the end of the list I will put links to several more ‘pollen calendars’ that I found.

Well this evening (… well yesterday evening and this morning) have shown how its possible to have a truly enjoyable time without having to drink any alcoholic bevarages. Of course some people reading this would think this to be a fairly obvious fact, but you have to understand that after four crazy student years it can be quite easy to loose sight of this fact.
Of course even though I remained sober this evening, I still had to walk home, being banned from driving and all.
A popular saying for this situation goes along these lines: ‘if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime’
A rather obvious oversight to this saying is that the length of the time and the gravity of the crime are rarely something that people properly consider. Especially if your judgement is slightly clouded by alcohol. Well its something for you to think about, I’m off to bed.

In the not too distant past I was watching a program about people with bad diets being ‘educated’ by an expert. My curiosity was tweaked when this expert did a quick diagnostic of digestive problems by looking at the subjects tongue.

Eventually this curiosity got to a high enough level for me to find out more. Firstly I had a look in the mirror. One quick search later and I found this site. I have yet to find another site to back up this information (something I’m a bit dubious about) but according to this information I have the following problems:
Problems with small intestines, unfortunately the site didn’t do into anymore detail that this so thats a bit of a non-starter.
Possible “stagnation of blood; fat and mucus deposits; or a weakness in the blood leading to such conditions as anaemia.”
I’m pretty sure I don’t have mucus deposits and I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe I have a ‘weakness in the blood’. Now I know that anaemia can be caused by a lack of iron so I’ve done a bit of research on iron, and here is is: Read the rest of this entry »
