Well this evening (… well yesterday evening and this morning) have shown how its possible to have a truly enjoyable time without having to drink any alcoholic bevarages. Of course some people reading this would think this to be a fairly obvious fact, but you have to understand that after four crazy student years it can be quite easy to loose sight of this fact.
Of course even though I remained sober this evening, I still had to walk home, being banned from driving and all.
A popular saying for this situation goes along these lines: ‘if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime’
A rather obvious oversight to this saying is that the length of the time and the gravity of the crime are rarely something that people properly consider. Especially if your judgement is slightly clouded by alcohol. Well its something for you to think about, I’m off to bed.
lol…honey, even though i personally think you were cheated out of your license!!…..i am not sure many people would think the same way as me…and i agree, sometimes the severity of the punishment does not fit the crime….but sadly, most of the time….the crime is more sever than the punishment….and even more sadly…this is not the case for you, you got a very strong sentence type thingy for a not very strong crime….and if any of that makes sense to you guys…your better ppl than me!
that was me btw,….damn this different computer lark!

Aww, thanks honey, but I don’t think I disagree with the sentance, I just think that a more widespread education on the matter would be good for everyone. On all aspects of law not just drinking & driving 🙂
If i may be so controversial…
I know Rob’s shared a similar view to this in previous conversations we’ve had, where it’s been pointed out that although the crime itself may not have been a "strong" or "serious" crime, it could have been if someone had gotten hurt.
Now don’t get me wrong guys, that’s the last thing I (and indeed anyone) would want, but if it DID happen, it would have filled the news reports, and next thing you know you’ve got a hate gang on your back for what became a serious crime. And no offence but it’d be rightfully so.
Drink driving may not be too serious if nobody gets hurt, but we shouldn’t forget that the chances of someone getting hurt are greatly increased, and THAT is where the important values of education and awareness need to focus on.
The concept is simple – Help reduce accidents, injuries, or even fatalities by proactive education.
Also, only slightly related, there’s a strong difference between different nation’s tv campaigns to spread awareness.
For example, in the UK we’ve got "It takes less than you think to become a drink driver" and the more simple "Don’t drink and drive".
In Australia and New Zealand, it’s plain and simple, with one of their previous campaign slogans…
"If you drink then drive, you’re a bloody idiot". <– Fact.
If i was writing an essay, i’d bother looking up statistics of drink driving percentages in these two nations and spuff like that, but that’s not my purpose.
I’m not trying to score grades, i’m just saying my piece, and i hope that people reading this will agree.
If it sounds like i’m being harsh, it’s only because my father (being in the fire and rescue service for about 15 years) has witnessed the results of what drink driving can lead to on MANY occassions. It’s not good, so for once, perhaps we (as a nation, if not as a species) would benefit from taking a little advice from the Australians.
I know this ain’t even MY blog, but i’d be interested if anyone has any further comments.
That’s me done, i’ve said my piece, i’m signing out.
Pete
i do agree with you Pete…my dad has been in the police for roughly 20 years and i have seen him come home after witnessing the result of many car accidents…and believe me, i never want to see that look in his eyes agin….and if it was anyone else….i would have said ‘nail him up’…simply because i feel, as you do, that its not always what happened but what COULD have happened that makes me afriad…….but, in this case…it was one of my closest friends…..and knowing Rob, i know he would not intentially set out to hurt anyone or break the law (well, not in this way anyways hehe)….i guess, because it was him…i feel it should have only been a 12 month ban….i am biased :)…
