Yesterday I took a drive to an area called Virginia Water, with the intention of taking some photos. Picturesque place is Virginia Water. In an attempt to be prepared I took all three of my lenses. Including my super long lens. My thought was that perhaps I’d be able to take pictures of some wildlife. Seems that the wildlife of Virginia Water had a memo about this, and had constructed a plan. The plan was this.
Pose.
Wait, until Rob is nearly ready.
Run.
Every rabbit and every squirrel had recieved this memo an acted on it with skill. Finding the perfect pose, in the ideal early evening light, waiting. Nibbling a nut or twitching a nose, these animals were teasing me!!!
Still, at least I had a relaxing walk.
The birds in our garden received that memo yesterday, after we bought two bird feeders and got the camera ready…Andy is still to get a shot…little bleeders!
Ah, young apprentice… (imagine this being spoken in a kind of “Mr Miyagi” like voice for full effect)…
The key to photographing the untamed beast is patience.
You do not go looking for the untamed beast, the beast must come to you.
*AHEM* (back to normal voice now)
Yeah, as soon as you go moving in their sight, you’re gonna scare the “little bleeders”, so if you’re like me and have far too much spare time on your hands, you’ll be waiting completely motionless for them to get “used to” your presence.
…example!
Yet another fine demonstration of how bored I get to stand still by a window till your legs go funny!
…oh yeah, a lot of it can be down to sheer luck! 😉
Damn Pete, that’s pretty damn impressive!!!
I’m sure there are proper wildlife photographers that spend days standing by windows.
You’d think that, what them being HOUSEmartins and having their nests in the corner of the outside window cavity, it’d be easy to snap them?
Alas, no! Those little critters are very quick to hide or change direction in flight!
I don’t quite have the patience to be standing there for days though, I’d just get hungry after like half an hour or something!
Check this one out though, it’s when a few months ago, a bird flew into our shop and decided to perch around on a few shelves! How could I NOT grab the shop’s SLR?!
