Happy birthday to Coley, the significant other of Denyer 😀

Hope you guys have a great night out, sorry I can’t be there, I promise I’ll visit as soon as finance allows (not too soon by the looks of things :().

… until my ASDL gets activated, no more taking work home on stupid floppys, back to the joy that is email and or web space. Ideally in this situation I’d be using my 128Mb flash disk that pretends to be an MP3 player but actually isn’t…..

but I lost it 😐

A few minutes ago…

*beep*… my phone is on quite mode because I’m at work, I pick up:

me: Hello
them:Ah, hello I’m calling from O2 and I’m hoping to save you some money on your mobile phone bill.
me:ok
them:Now you’re on pay as you go at the moment aren’t you?
me:No I’m on T-mobile mix-it
them:Ah you’re on a contract, you wouldn’t happen to know how long you’ve got left on that do you?
me:About seven months
them:Oh… you’ve got seven months left? Well sorry to waste your time then.
me:Bye

Not the first time a cold caller has failed miserably to sell me anything and with out me having to say a word out of turn 🙂

me = proud

… for lazy people anyway a recent article from the bbc news website anounces that with gene therapy (blocking dopamine in the brain) lazy monkeys can be turned into workaholics.
Not that I want to become a workaholic or anything but being able to take something to break ‘the procrastination barrier’ would certainly be a blessing in some cases.

Interestingly the article hints that being ‘normal’ means procrastination, i.e. all that time in uni (Den, Andy ;)) when projects just didn’t get started ’till the last possible moment is actually fairly standard behaviour.

I feel vindicated 😛

I was browsing Shacknews (should really add that to the links list), when I saw a link to the setting up of QuakeCon 2004, I had a quick look see…
Damn they use a lot of computers, networking equipment, etc for that !!!
The geek in me was looking at the pictures and I couldn’t help but think how much fun it must be to set up something like that, there’s evern a picture of about 20 people sat round a table just crimping network leads….

fantastic fun…

Just trying to get feedster to work:

… And my broadband should be activated by the 20th August 🙂

Damn thats two weeks away!
Nevermind I’m sure I’ll manage.
I decided in the end to go with vispa as an ASDL provider as they were number one in the top 10 list according to ispreview.co.uk. Now in my book you can’t go far wrong with that, and reading the customer comments on that page gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Just have to wait and see, hopefully it’ll be worth it as its a £58 activation fee!!!

I do get a static IP though, and backup dial-up, and other good things too 🙂

I am of course going for the 512kbps service 😀

Well the lack of internet at home was nicely explained by the appearence on my door-step of my next door neighbour (no he hadn’t come to have ‘words’).
It turns out that he needed to use the phone, as the phone box at the end of the road was broken (damn vandals), so obviously no phone connection in his house. With some more explination creeping out it transpired that he is now the soul inhabitant of the house next door as the other housemates (next door is a shared house also) have now moved out, presumable taking their unsecured wireless router with them to Wimbledon. Multimap tells me that this is 23 miles away… I don’t care how good your WiFi antenna is, you’re not gonna get that signal!

So it looks like I’ll have to get my own connection (Pete :P), which is fair enough. I’m happy to pay for it now that I’ve cleared the debt from moving and can actually afford it.
In that respect you could say that their move was well timed, any earlier and I would have been left slightly gutted.

Anyway all those that know me can expect my e-mailage and IM’ing to be low or non-existant until my connection gets activated.

For all the geeky type people:

You are Palm OS. Punctual, straightforward and very useful. Your mother wants you to do more with your life like your cousin Wince, but you're happy with who you are.
Which OS are You?

I must explain that my lack of blogging over the weekend was caused by a busy saturday and a lack of internet connectivity on sunday. Hopefully this will be back to normal but its never a sure thing when you’re ‘borrowing’ your connection from your unsuspecting neighbour 😉
