It is a topic of hot contention between the sexes: Could a man take the pain of child birth?
Putting aside the fact that men and women naturally have different response levels to pain, the only way to successfully determine the answer to this question is via a means of comparison.
If child birth were, for example, equally painful or more painful than pulling out a nose hair then I don’t think I could do it. I had an aesthetically displeasing long nose hair once, and with a pair of tweezers gave it an experimental tug.
Five minutes later I emerged from the foetal position and decided to tackle the problem with some carefully wielded nail scissors.
You know there are special gadgets for men to trim their nose and ear hair. Could this a potential birthday gift???
Hehe, I don’t think the situation is quite bad enough to warrent a specific instument, it was only one hair 😛
It is indeed most curious. Men seem to be better at acute pain, and women with chronic. For example my Gran has a broken shoulder she won’t have looked at. he just draws air over her teeth a lot and “Gets on with it.” When she broke it, she complained an awful lot. Now she just weathers weathers it.
Punch a guy in the face, or stab him in the hand and he’ll shrug it off *UNTIL* the time comes for the wound to be cleaned.
So much as nudge most women and its either tears or a lawsuit.
Something about anticipated pain perhaps? Dunno. I’m an idiot, not a physiologist.
My thought process on this issue was a lot clearer before I started typing. Damn keyboards.
Indeed, the power of the keyboard, or any writing implement to slow the thoughts sufficiently that the initial point is lost. Perhaps it’s not the keyboard, perhaps your brain is just too fast for the written medium… Thats what I like to think anyway 🙂
I don’t think I would shrug of any kind of injury, but then I’m happy to describe myself as a wuss 🙂
